Basic Character Overview: Precis is what I'd like to call a 'crack character.' It seems like nothing can bring her down! She's happy, bouncy, chirpy, hyper, sugary, cute, and of course this leads to her being entertaining. Her carefree nature can lead to the impression that she's really just a ditz, but underneath it all is a mechanical engineering genius. Or at least, soon will be. Her interest in technology and mechanics is what lead her to study at Ergheiz, and these are not simple subjects in the least! She herself, though, seems as 'unaware' of this intelligent, academic side that she possesses. Good marks and solved problems just roll off her back as she keeps herself looking forward to exciting discoveries.
RP-modified History: In the spirit ofleonthegenius, Precis is also being played as a pre-game Precis. She hasn't had much in the way of formal education, even though her town houses a university. (Seriously, I won't begin to try to explain that, I haven't any clue.) Her father is an eccentric, and often times overly obsessed inventor who raised her on his own and managed to pass down his love of experiments and inventing to his only child. Their house in Linga is the site of a huge lab where her father has tinkered with machines for years, and since Precis was 10, she was allowed to 'assist' her father in his experimentation. It was not long before she was making suggestions and improving the gadgets he himself was trying to perfect. It would appear that the child had a natural gift for machines.
By sixteen, the teen was frustrated. Her father had let her begin to experiment and build her own gadgets by the time she had turned 12; she had learned enough from simple observation of her father's actions that she could start putting things together and getting functional results. At 13, she started her shelf of what she termed "gear examples"; scale models of the different functional parts she had discovered on her own, that had thus far produced good results when combined in various ways.
By 16, she had discovered 18 different 'examples' all on her own. Despite this fantastic achievement, she felt that her inventiveness had hit a plateau. Additionally, the advances her own father made to machine mechanics continued to draw scorn and distrust from the other townsfolk. True, out of a dozen experiments, it was very unlikely that even one would result in success instead of a noisy explosion or a destructional mechanical disaster. It didn't take long for the residents of Linga to become very annoyed with the frequent disturbances to their quiet, backwater life.
Not all the residents were enemies of the Neumanns, though. One of the linguists, renowned in the area for his academic prowess, shared a brochure that had crossed his desk. It was an information booklet regarding a university for gifted kids, called Ergheiz, located on a moon of a planet no one had heard of. Yet, the information seemed legitimate, and when Precis' father's correspondence was answered, it was certain the place was real. He was too old to be going to school somewhere that wasn't nearby, though, and still seemed to be learning a lot from his experimental blunders. Precis began to attend the school on the moon.
An odd turn of events resulted in faculty and students transferring to a new campus, on Mars. One of them being Balmung, her object of infatuation. When she learned where he'd gone, there was very, very little anyone could do to keep the girl from getting a hold of transfer papers and making her way over...
